My name is Yikai Zhang, and I am a 21-year-old self-taught artist based in the UK. In terms of educational background I was trained as a scientist, having completed my bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I have never attended art college or had any 'formal training' beyond GCSE, but instead have developed my own style of working through careful observation and experimentation. My early work were often large-scale oil paintings of fantastical landscapes based on 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, but I have now shifted to more mixed-media work as I find it more liberating and exciting.
